n. a district Ottawa (c1830-50) where Irish canal laborers and loggers lived in a shacktown.
- 1833  (1903)  Near the works is a place called Corktown, where the workmen have burrowed in the sandhills.
- 1946  Corktown was named after Cork, Ireland, by the Irish majority originating from that city or probably on account of the great number of corks which were made to fly from liquor bottles.
- 1960  Establishing themselves in the area of Bytown known as "Cork Town", centred about the picturesque "Mother McGinty's Tavern," the Shiners soon made their presence felt.
