- 1796  (1895)  The dogs had nothing to do with it; it was not, I apprehend, known to the Maroons that they were with us, for the Maroons had moved the day before we did.
- 1828  (1832)  Some time after, three ships, with the rebellious Maroons of Jamaica, arrived at Halifax.
- 1955  Nova Scotia has the largest Negro community in Canada, and in Halifax the colored race has been prominent since the Maroons helped build the city in 1749.
