1943  . . . Bear River's pioneers came from Granville, Annapolis and Digby. These pre-loyalists were joined later by a number of Loyalists from the United States.
1946  When asked about their origins, it must not be suggested to them [people of the Annapolis Valley, N.S.] that they are "Loyalists": they are of an older breed; "Pre-Loyalists," they will proudly say.
