- 1942  (1946)  Cherry-picker. A small donkey engine loaded on to a skeleton car or flat car and taken out along the track to pick up logs or loads dropped from cars on the way down to the Beach.
2 n. a large machine, mounted on a caterpillar tractor, for picking up long, heavy logs.
