1829  In crossing the lake . . . the Steamboat Montreal and the horse-boat came in contact with each other, but both running in the same direction, neither received injury.
1863  (1930)  During the time that I lived in Laprairie there were no steamers used as ferry boats, nor even a horse boat; we had to cross both at Laprairie and Longueuil in batteaus.
1909  The inauguration of steamboats on Lake Simcoe took place in 1832, and a "horseboat" was tried in 1838, but did not work well.
