lazarus [origin unknown] Nfld, Obs.
n. a variety of seal.
- 1774  (1792)  At noon I went in a skiff and hauled the nets under the Lyon Head, and had a lazarus in one of them.
- 1861  The next seal I have to catalogue (there is nothing special in it to describe) generally loiters on the coast later than the Harp, and frequents it sooner in the spring: it is called the Lazarus.
