c1840  (1889)  I do not see the use of so much Greek and Latin for these postmasters, since neither artificial nor natural acquirements are of any avail.
1829  (1940)  Post Masters Are a Class which ranks in the Service between Interpreters and Clerks. They are generally persons who while filling the office of common Labourers brought themselves into particular notice by their steadiness honesty and attention and were in due times raised from the "ranks" and placed in charge of small Posts at Salys from 35 to £45 p. Annm.
