1888  (1890)  Calgary is the centre of the great ranching country, and one of the chief outfitting places for the mining districts.
1953  It was good ranching land in the early days on the arrival of the mounties . . . and the pioneer rancher of the Cypress Hills. . . .
1958  Ranching. The raising of livestock by grazing the native grasslands on a relatively extensive basis is confined to two large areas of Western Canada: (1) Southern Alberta together with southwestern Saskatchewan and (2) the southern interior plateau of British Columbia.

1959  Tom introduced rat ranching (muskrat, that is) to the North Country, and his workings covered 54,000 acres at Moose Lake, 320,000 acres in Saskatchewan Province.
1963  . . . the Canadian government was prompted to purchase, in 1929, a herd of 3,000 reindeer from Alaska to start reindeer ranching in the Canadian Arctic.
1965  Looking ahead, we feel the rewards of fur ranching--of all kinds--will increase.
