1929  (1937)  Hubbs and Brown (1929) referred Lake Ontario sauger to the subspecies S.c. canadense.
1955  . . . even boys have been put to work owing to the large quantity of boxes required for the large daily catches of pickerel and . . . saugers. . . .
1964  The most important catch in terms of value is the pickerel, followed by whitefish, sauger (a pickerel-like fish) and pike.
