n. one of a number of coves on the St. Lawrence River, near Quebec, where square timbers, staves, spars, etc. for export were stored in booms for trans-shipping after being rafted down from the lumber camps.
1815  Westward of this place is another inlet called Ritchie's Cove, and to eastward another spacious timber-ground called Atkinson's, in each there are convenient booms and other securities.
