- 1923  (1960)  When the storm was about to break out, at midnight, a deep sound from the seer's lodge startled the people, a sound like that of a large water drum.
- 1935  . . . the leaders, marching near the lodge, beat the water-drum and chanted a song.
- 1956  There was also a water drum made like a small barrel with a skin head at one end. The barrel was partly filled with water which gave the drum a queer echoing note that carried a long way.
