Type: 1. Origin — The award, originally established in 1972, presented the Nellie statuette to winners in several categories until 1986. From 1987, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT) became responsible for presenting Canadian television and film awards, which were the Gemini Awards, the Prix Gémeaux and the Genie Awards.
In celebration of ACTRA's 60th anniversary in 2003, the ACTRA Awards were re-established as a regional award for achievements in film and television, for performances, union activism and contribution to the industry.
