a traditional knitted hat in the Canadian Arctic, with a brightly coloured rim and usually a tassel.
Type: 1. Origin — Pangnirtung hats appear to be named for Pangnirtung, a hamlet located on Baffin Island in the territory of Nunavut that is known world-wide for its artisanal products (see Pangnirtung reference, see the 2016 quotation). The term is most prevalent in Canada (see Chart 1).
