York, Upper Canada, so called because it was said to be the political headquarters of the Radicals, who were accused of being Yankees (def. 2c).

- 1831  This contest terminated in the election of Mr. Shade and the rejection of Caleb Hopkins, the saddlebag candidate, after the Ryersonians putting forth their strength, & their political priests using every exertion in favour of the old grog-boss from Yankee-town.
