The preferred term in the UK (see Chart 1), blue bin has some currency in Canadian English. However, Canadian internet data and newspaper sources show that blue box is strongly favoured (see blue box).- 1990 Wet waste like kitchen refuse and grass clippings will go into a green bin. Dry waste - paper, glass, cans, plastic - will go into a blue bin.
- 2000 The blue bin recycling program is yet to reach a full year of implementation and yet by the year's end well over half the yearly target will be reached.
- 2012 At city hall, meanwhile, the mayor said his office has a blue bin for recyclables and a makeshift container for organics such as banana peels and other food waste.
