n. — Agriculture
an imperial unit of measure (now of 36.37 litres) used for dry commodities (e.g. for wheat).
Type: 2. Preservation — Imperial and American bushels are not equivalent; while Canada took over the (British) imperial measure, the US developed different types of bushel measurements. The US bushel is only 35.24 litres. This distinction is of relevance given the frequency of trade between Canada and the US.
