  a two-wheeled one-horse carriage, built to carry two passengers and having a seat on the splashboard for the driver. Nowadays the calèche is mainly used for sight-seeing tours in Quebec City and Montreal.

  • When this vehicle was in common use in eastern Canada, the anglicized form calash was usual among English speakers. The French calèche took over as the vehicle became less common in the latter part of the 19th century.
