Type: 5. Frequency — The term dish soap is far more common in Irish English than in Canadian English (see Chart 1). The term is, however, still the most popular variant within Canada when compared with "dishwashing soap" and "dishwashing liquid" (see Chart 2) and has twice the frequency compared to the US (see Chart 1). In light of this data, in the North American context dish soap has a Canadian dimension per virtue of its frequency (see Chart 2). Globally, of course, it does not.
The term may be considerably older. The concept is documented in the 1903 quotation from Manitoba, yet the term is not used.
