Type: 5. Frequency — The concept of icing uses the idea of reverting those parts of the action that happened after a rule violation. A similar process is applied in the use of verbal exclamation "Freeze!" to stop an action in informal North American English. Icing is a semantic change relating to the general properties of ice. As Chart 1 shows, the concept is most frequntly used in Canada (here with the example of icing call).
