- 1965  I had made a "variation set": two tall spruces grew about four feet apart and I had strung a twisted, three-strand haywire cable from one to the other as high up as I could reach, stapling each end securely and testing it by swinging my weight on it. In the middle of this cable, halfway between the trees, I fastened the bait. On the ground below I set two traps, each about a foot from each tree base.
