Frost fence FROST FENCE, FROST frence, frost fence DCHP-2 (March 2016)
n. — proprietary
a chain-link fence.
Type: 2. Preservation — The term is a generalization from a trademarked name belonging to the Frost Wire Fence Company, a US company that opened a branch plant in Ontario in the late 19th century (see the 1897 and 1898 quotations). Frost fence is now used to denote any chain-link fence regardless of brand. Although the original company has US origins (see the Frost Wire Fence Co. reference), Chart 1 attests to its near-exclusive Canadian status today.
See also COD-2, which marks it "Cdn proprietary".
