Indian whisky Hist. DCHP-1 (pre-1967)

• brandy, rum, whisky, or high wines (often diluted and sometimes spiced with pepper, Tabasco, tobacco, or weak acids) traded to the Indians.

  • 1859  The officers brought in two or three bottles and a pail full of Indian Whisky which were taken from him.
  • 1952  From then until the commerce was summarily extinguished by the North West Mounted Police fifteen years later, a steady stream of "Injun whiskey"--unspeakably vile compared to the Hudson's Bay Company product--flowed north across the border.
