- The older M.L.A. had given way to MLA by the late mid-century.
- 1897  Another of our M.L.A.'s is to join his confreres in the new Western Eldorado, the marvellously rich Kootenay.
- 1918  In the provinces of Quebec and Nova Scotia, where there are two houses in the legislature, members of the legislative council and those of the legislative assembly are sometimes given the distinguishing titles M.L.C. and M.L.A., respectively. Occasionally but improperly, the form M.L.A. is used with the names of members of the legislature in the other provinces, where there is but one legislative chamber.

- 2001  While Higgins has only been an MLA since 1999 and a cabinet minister since Premier Lorne Calvert appointed her labour minister on Oct. 12, she is no stranger to the labour movement or to labour issues. For years she was active with the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada union, which represents Canada Safeway workers. 
- 2013  Before entering federal politics, Mr. Toews was a lawyer and a provincial MLA.
