a member of the Quebec provincial parliament, who is called Member of the National Assembly.
Type: 5. Frequency — Although there are other national states whose constitutive parts call their legislatures National Assemblies, such as Wales, the term MNA is most prevalent in Canada (see Chart 1). Quebec's legislature changed its name to the National Assembly in 1968. Consequently MNA replaced MLA from that point on.

- 1969  Mr. Henri L. Coiteux, M.N.A. Duplessis County (L) devoted the major part of his speech in reply to the Speech from the Throne to the economic problems of Quebec. 
- 1971  Polls taken days before the convention opened showed Mr. Loubier, member of the National Assembly for Bellechasse, and Mr. Masse, MNA for Montcalm, running neck and neck, with fully half of the delegates undecided. 
- 1982  Quebec MNAs voted themselves a raise yesterday, less than a week after passing legislation cutting or freezing the salaries of more than 300,000 public service workers. The Liberal Opposition voted against the move. 
- 1995  No one is expected to stand against Bouchard for the PQ leadership, and he could be sworn in as premier early in the new year. He will likely run in a by-election in the riding of Jonquiere, where the local MNA has offered to step aside.
