Muskoka chair DCHP-2 (July 2016)

  a slatted wooden chair, generally for outdoor use, with a straight, fan-shaped back and broad armrests (see Image 1).

  Type: 1. Origin — This chair, designed for outdoor relaxation in cottage country, is named for the district of Muskoka in central Ontario, which borders Georgian Bay of Lake Huron. They are called Adirondack chairs in the US, named for the mountain range in upstate New York. The style of the chair is likely adapted from the American design of the Westport chair (named after Westport, NY). See also Hunter resource.

  • 1987  Of the wedding chapel, sombre as a funeral parlor, the less said the better. Surely the pews made of chairs lashed together with black webbing were a miscalculation. The charming wooden "Muskoka" chairs and benches on the plaza and in the conservatory (also designed by Edward Jones) were not. 
  • 1988  The large wooden chair has been born again and emerged on the market as the Muskoka chair, and in the case of the fold-up version sold at For Art Sake (1977 Queen St. E.), it's known as a cottage club chair.
