an inland freight boat, descended from the bateau, in common use from the early 1820's but used for tripping as early as 1790, and finally withdrawn from service entirely about 1930. [See picture at York boat.]

- 1892  It was away back in the sixties, when every pound of goods was carried to the Northwest in Red River boats, and a long slow trip it was.
- 1927  "E" (Troop) followed, to be succeeded early the next day by "F" with all but the heaviest stores which Red-River boats would take to Dufferin.
