- 1861 Of parchment, as such, the Chipewyans make, little use; but the residents avail themselves of it, in place of glass for windows, for constructing the sides of dog-carrioles, and for making glue.
- 1914 A dog-cariole is a large canvas shoe on a toboggan in which a man can lie down, and the driver stands on the open part behind him.
- 1962 For winter travel, the dog cariole was used. The cariole was rather like a wooden shoe with the toe turned up to form a dashboard.
