  a member of the terrorist Front de Libération du Québec.

  Type: 1. Origin — The word, a loan word from Canadian French, is most prevalent in French Canadian texts, but has found entry into Canadian English. As the quotations show, however, the term is often glossed or explained, which indicates a non-integrated loan word. As shown in Chart 1, the term is almost exclusively used in Canada. The term is likely created on the French pronunciation of FLQ, which is the abbreviation for the Front de Libération du Québec.
