1832  There are only seven of these islands which are in any way capable of settlement, and that only with the chief purpose of fishing stations.
1927  . . . in 1850 . . . the Company used the island [San Juan Island] as a fishing station, putting up annually two or three thousand barrels of salmon.
1955  Apparently the French had used the harbour [Renews, once Rougenoust] as a fishing station as early as 1506.

1872  Two miles over rough waters are the Round Rocks, which is a very fair fishing station when the river is high and the fish are running.
