- 1939 . . . let alone the kingmik, that strange dog of the northeast Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, half Arctic wolf and half dog, the origin of which nobody knows, and which never seems to respond to an offer of kindness from man. It's an entirely different animal from the husky dog of the Northwest, which is half timberwolf and half dog, and which may be made a pet.
- 1940 At the present time the Eskimo dog is universally employed by the various tribes over the whole of the vast hinterland indicated above. It is known by such names as "husky" and "wolf dog," though in the Eastern Canadian Arctic it is customarily referred to simply as the "Eskimo," or by the native name, "Kingmik."
