1945  An interesting legend exists among this little band of Nontreaty Chippewas.
1963  Farther west, the Indians waited for news of the Metis progress. The Crees on Poundmaker's reserve in the Eagle Hills south of Battleford were restless and hungry. So were the Assiniboines just west. Equally disgruntled were the non-treaty Crees of the Big Bear's band, who had put in a lean winter. Both chiefs were notable for keeping the peace.
