the lightly wooded, grassy belt of rich land lying between the open prairie and the northern forests in the three Prairie Provinces; also, similar but smaller areas of lightly wooded rolling grasslands, as the Peace River country.

- 1952  Between the open prairie and the forest lies the aspen grove or "Parkland" belt. This is a tall grassland formation interspersed at frequent intervals with small "bluffs" or groves of trees, indicative of an increased moisture supply.
- 1953  This fact would seem to urge caution in the extension of irrigation northward into the parkland belt.
