an American settler who moved into Canada (1790-1800) after the influx of the true refugees, the motive usually being to take advantage of the Crown lands being opened for settlement.

- 1948 The Americans thought . . . the Loyalists would have had time to regret their previous decision and the great flood of "post-Loyalists" who had followed them to British North America looking for new land and opportunities would be ripe for revolt.
