  Type: 5. Frequency — Although the term post-secondary is widely understood with regards to higher education, it is far more frequently used in Canada than elsewhere (see Chart 1). Currently (2016), post-secondary education refers to any formal program offered by universities, colleges, and institutes including academic, vocational, technical and continuing professional education (see CICIC reference).
