Type: 5. Frequency — The term riding association had developed naturally from riding to describe a political party's base in a constituency. Since riding is primarily a Canadian term, it follows that riding association is also mainly found in Canada (see Chart 1).

- 1977  Mr. Cummings, who is a vice-president of the federal NDP, said trade union members seldom become involved in the party and all too often locals ignore the need to establish political action committees.
He said labor must be involved in the riding associations to make sure the party structure is such as will do labor the most good. 
- 1988  Another source insisted there was no desire to favor one candidate over another and all wanted to do what is in the party's best interests.
He said many Liberal riding associations don't have the money to mount an early convention and questioned whether the organization could be ready to elect delegates in February and March. Others question whether the party could mount anything more than a cursory policy review by meeting so quickly.
